You are invited to study and experience the Christian ministry of
spiritual direction and mentoring in May at St. Peter's Abbey in Muenster,
Saskatchewan. "Walking on Holy Ground: A Seminar for Lay and Clergy" is
becoming an annual gathering on the Canadian Prairies for those wishing to
grow in their ability as a prayer companion and who wish to enhance the
spiritual life of their congregation or parish.
This experiential seminar will focus on ways of praying, on movement in
prayer, on spiritual direction theory and practice, on peer and individual
supervision in practice, as well as some other topics (understanding
differences in religious experiences, images of God, individual faith
stories, hindrances and barriers to growth and prayer).
The seminar begins with supper on May 14 and concludes with the noon lunch
on May 22. Participants must have previously attended at least one two-day
silent guided retreat. A $30. non-refundable deposit is required with you
application by April 14. The fee is $520 (for room, board, tuition, and
materials). The staff for "Walking on Holy Ground" includes Sister Anne
Keffer, Pastor Claire Ewert Fisher, and Pastor Don Johnson. For
information, contact Sister Anne Keffer at 406-664-6709 or at

In July the ELCIC Task Force on the Adult Catechumenate will meet in
Mississauga just prior to the annual gathering of the North American
Association for the Catechumenate. The Task Force will also attend the NAAC
conference. The event focuses on "What Would Church Look Like if Baptism Is
Truly the Source of Who and What We Are?" The speaker is Rev. Ruth Meyers,
Associate Professor of Liturgy at Seabury Western Theological Seminary. The
event takes place at the Queen of Apostles Renewal Centre in Toronto, and
the cost is $285. Registration: NAAC (Sandy Bricker, 128 Summit Glen Road,
Potaskala OH 73062).
The Task Force on the Adult Catechumenate of the ELCIC will hold a
preconvention gathering in Mississauga in July. It is hoped that this
meeting will add new impetus to the ministry of the catechumenate for
parishes. To add your input to that meeting, address your needs in
catechumenal ministry to Rev. Cindy Halmarson in the National Office.
Catechumenal ministry continues to grow among most churches and continues
to influence the ways we envision Christian initiation for the reception of
infants, confirmands, and adults new to the faith.
