Training Events in
Direction
- The Guelph Centre of Spirituality at Guelph, Ontario, offers a Summer practicum in
Spiritual Direction. From June 23 through August 31, the practicum provides participants with
fundamental skills in directing a three to eight-day retreat. The program consists of a Progoff
Life Experience Workshop and a personally directed retreat of six days; the retreat Directors'
workshop; a seminar developing themes from the Workshop and areas of specific interest and
concern to participants; and the opportunity to direct two or three eight-day retreats, with daily
supervision. Participants are Christians who pray and possess an ability to understand and
express inner experience, with a sense of humour, an ability to work with a team, an experiential
wave-length, with some familiarity with the Spiritual Exercises, and with an adequate
theological background. Applicants must have made the full Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius
under personal direction, either in the thirty-day format or the Exercises in Daily Life. The cost
of $2,750, covers room, board, and tuition. For information, contact The Secretary, Loyola
House, Box 245, Guelph, Ontario. N1H 6J9.
- The Guelph Centre offers short-term events with a range of emphases. For example, for the
weekends of April 22-24 and Nov. 25-27, Jim Bowler, with backgrounds in Jung and Fowler,
will relate Ignatian spirituality to men's issues in a workshop: "Exploring an Energizing Male
Spirituality."

A wide range of directed and non-directed retreats are held year-round at the Pecos Monastery in
Pecos, New Mexico. They also offer the School for Charismatic Spiritual Directors at their
Benedictine Monastery. Some of their upcoming retreat themes are Healing the Adult Stages of
Life (May 3-8), Renewal in the Holy Spirit (May 27-30), Finding God in Silence (June
10-12), Discovering and Healing the Inner Child (September 2-5), and the Rule of St. Benedict:
The Way of Integration (September 12-17). A frequent visitor to Pecos is the episcopal priest,
Dr. Morton Kelsey, author of "Adventure Inward," "Caring," "Dreams: A Way to Listen to God,"
"The Other Side of Silence," and "Dreamquest." The monthly Pecos Benedictine newsletter
contains a rich listing of resources on spirituality and ministry, available from Pecos Benedictine
Abbey, Pecos NM 87552.
